Dear Saskatchewan...

Dear Saskatchewan,

Together we have shared many great  memories from my childhood.  Some of our favourite people in this world come from your wheat-y shores and they were so good to us on this trip.

But, we have to talk!

It was a bit of a bumpy ride for us this visit, and I'm not speaking figuratively. Numerous times, Greg was white knuckled on your "highways". I'll use that term loosely.  Now perhaps I'm being sensitive to road quality; I come by it honestly (DAD); yet, I don't think gravel roads are meant to be used as major thoroughfares.  Dunno if you've heard the news my Saskapal but apparently pavement is the way most of your province buddies are going.  You might want to follow suit, so they don't leave you in all your gravel-y dust (cough, cough, choke, choke). Also, FYI: most roads have shoulders.  It just makes them safer and drivers aren't forced to choose between oncoming truck or tipping off the road.  That's some scary s**** Sask.  Scary!!!

THIS IS CONSIDERED A MAJOR HIGHWAY!!!

The way the motorhome feels when it hits a bump!

Also early June is not 'pre-season' for camping ok? It's hot out, people want to camp and if you open, they will come...provided that you take reasonably good care of your campgrounds.  I don't mean you have to have pristine showers or brand new playgrounds, although that would partly make up for the road situation (see roads) but you may have to do something more than 'natural management' of an acknowledged tent caterpillar infestation.  'Infestation' probably isn't the right word.  It lacks gravitas.  We arrived at a campground this afternoon and without exaggerating we have spent almost the entire time in the motorhome because we are afraid to go outside for fear of being overrun by caterpillars. There are thousands of them.  There is a brick building less than a block away from us and I can barely tell it is made of brick and not caterpillars.  They are swarming all over the campsite and the picnic table. They are falling from the treetops onto our roof. (I think they are actually jumping on purpose) They are crawling up the side of the motor home.  We have duck taped around the electrical cord so they can't get in.  My son is having nightmares about caterpillars.  My daughter has collected a disgusting bucket of them, and she wants to bring it with us.  Not cool Saskatchewan.

Love,
Lori, Greg and the kids
